I began my career in a furniture restoration business owned by my father. I started as bookkeeper, and worked my way up to production and operations manager. It gave me all the things I value—independence, self-direction, responsibility. But it also kicked my butt.
The overwhelm of managing people much older than myself. The stress of being responsible for the livelihood of so many. Unpredictable sales lows. Team members that refused to get along. State regulation requirements. Particular and demanding customers.
Still, it was addicting. The victory of making a sale in time to save payroll. Bouncing back yet again after a low season. A customer made speechless by her grandmother’s antique table returned to its glory.
The business demanded everything, and I let it consume me.
First it was the exhaustion. Feeling as though I couldn’t keep my head up through the afternoon. Dragging myself out of bed every morning.
Then came nausea after every meal, and a bloated stomach I couldn’t get rid of no matter what I ate.
Mood changes finally got my attention. Anxiety and a crushing negativity started to take over every day.
It became clear that if I didn’t change, any dreams I had for my own business and career success were going to disappear.
Change felt impossible when the simple tasks of each day consumed all the energy I had.
My doctor finally diagnosed me with a candida infection. The next two years I spent yo-yo dieting as I tried to rid myself of sugar addiction. What I did notice was—what I ate changed how I felt.
The venti caramel macchiatos, Chinese take out, and Wendy's drive thru had to go.
After only small wins in changing my diet, I felt I was losing a war with my body.
It was then a dear friend recommended me for a scholarship. I enrolled at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City, and began their Health Coach Training Program. Everything I learned I immediately put into practice in my own life.
Through my training in functional nutrition, I learned how to direct my body, mind, and mood. Every meal was an opportunity to feel more energized, and to heal on the deepest level.
In business, I began to generate new ideas and create systems for maximizing efficiency. I had energy and enthusiasm for what I was doing. Employee issues that used to send me into a rage I could now face calmly and respond with clarity.
Co-workers noticed the change in me and started asking for tips and advice. I began to notice small business owners around me suffering from the same symptoms I had experienced. Surviving on sugar and caffeine, and trying to ignore low energy, lack of sleep, and digestive issues.
It was clear my next step was to launch my own practice working with small business owners and professionals. I wanted to see business owners thriving alongside their business. No longer giving in to exhaustion and illness at the peak of their success.
I’ve been supporting business owners and professionals for the past eleven years. This is my service to the world. Giving each person ownership over how they feel, how they show up, and how prepared they are to do their greatest work and create their own success.
